If you’re anything like me, nearly every gig you go to is the best gig, because it’s the most recent one, you’ve just lived in the moment, the rush of adrenaline is still there and you’re walking away still buzzing from immersing yourself in the glow left by the performance.

A massive genuine thank you to all the bands that put themselves out there and throw their all into their live performances, sometimes to a small gathering but still holding nothing back, bringing both tears and laughter, joy and melancholy, triggering a range emotions at each performance and leaving indelible marks on the audience.… Read the rest

After what has been a full on few months at work, I awoke to a bright & crisp sunny April Monday morning, hailing the start of a week’s annual leave. And what better way to spend my first day of doing as little as possible, than in the company of “the hardest working band in showbusiness”, the dynamic husband/wife duo, The Courettes.

I’m not sure I can say anything about The Courettes that I’ve not said before. Their gig in McChuills certainly did not disappoint and with an album of B-sides and outtakes from the wonderful Back in Mono album to keep us going until the next album proper, the hardest working band in music ticked the boxes once again. You can never get enough live music, but can it get better than The Fabulous Courettes in Glasgow’s McChuills tonight?

This band is the essence of what a live gig should be all about. If you could bottle the vital energy, positivity and a sheer vibe of pure unadulterated joy that permeated the atmosphere in this intimate venue tonight, you’ve got the way to world peace… ok, maybe the natural pheromones in my brain are still in overdrive, but at least for a couple of hours tonight, I and I’m sure a room full of people in a small corner of Glasgow felt invincible.… Read the rest

The Courettes – Back in Mono (B-Sides and Outtakes)

The undisputed “Band of 2021”, The Courettes, never disappoint. In the run up to their next Scottish dates in June, they have filled a gap in between albums with this essential 10” vinyl, and CD, of outtakes and b-sides from last years outstanding Back in Mono album.

As usual with this vital husband and wife duo, the artwork is the first thing to draw you in, the impeccable retro styling of the sleeve giving a sure indication of what you are going to hear when the needle hits the groove. I’m also drawn to the fitting addition of ”fabulous” to their name on the cover, I find it hard to find enough superlatives to use when I’m describing this band and their music, fabulous will do for starters.… Read the rest

2022. Two months in already and not a dish done… that’s now confused half the readers at least.

However, good things come in small packages, and the number of singles that have kept me going throughout February has provided a wheen of good things.

I just need to get around to writing about all the big packages and all the amazing LPs the postman has kindly been delivering over the last couple of months (much to the consternation of Mrs Quiff)

Singles Round Up 2022 – Part 1 – January

I’ve been in absentia for the entire month of January, like many out there, I’ve been struggling with my Mental Health, to the extent that even things that normally give me pleasure felt like a chore or just utterly pointless.

I normally revel in receiving emails and messages sharing new music and releases, but in the last few weeks I just found it overwhelming. However, I have finally started to dig myself out of the mire and in doing so, have trawled through seemingly unending emails unearthing the best of new songs, singles, demos and so on from January (in my humble opinion)
