Turning Black Like Lizards – Perspex EP

Turning Black Like Lizards Perspex EP

Following up their previous 3 track EP, Spiral Eyes, Turning Black Like Lizards Perspex EP proves these penetrating earworms were no fluke by offering up three more slabs of hypnotically addictive psychedelic garage rock.

After a couple of listens the effect these brooding compositions has on the psyche is one of creeping into your consciousness and taking up residence. “I’m going outta my head” sings Andy Black on the lead track as the throbbing insistent melody does the opposite and surreptitiously worms its way into your head and stays there.

While Outta My Head has a down and dirty Black Rebel Motorcycle Club-esque feeling with Sympathy for the Devil type woos running through it, Perspex takes on a much more meditative laid-back groove. Almost sinister in its delivery matching the opening lyrics, “I’d like to be with you, I’d like to kill you…I’d like to see what’s in your mind”. The dreamy guitar reverb resonates around your head with a mesmerising effect. A gruff spoken part appears towards the end from the instantly recognisable Peter Coyne – “I wanna take the drug”. This song should come with a warning not to listen to while operating machinery… Sumptuous

Reach for the Gun closes out the EP in glorious fashion, the chilled-out groove continuing with luscious riffs and cool throbbing bass underlining a serene unruffled vocal.

Dying to see this lot live, hopefully 2020 will see a date or two north of the border.
