The Eddies – Still Takin’ the Mick EP review

The Eddies - Still Takin the Mick

The Eddies

Dundee’s The Eddies cement themselves as one of Scotland’s premier punk outfits with their new EP, Still Takin’ the Mick, dedicated to Mick Kilbride. Five tracks in total, and while it may sound like an old cliché the tracks are all killer, no filler.

The band have an flair for a full-throttle humdinger of a tune with a chorus that has you joining in from the off, take the first 2 songs on the EP as prime examples – “No way, not now, go away cos I’m not listening” and “My game – my rules.”

This EP highlights the knack they have and how accomplished they are at this opus. With opener No Way they set out the stall for the five tracks starting as they mean to go on, fierce & gung-ho in-yer-face big tunes and melodies. As I said, these are five knockout tunes, if I was to pick a favourite it would be Nowhere, slap bang in the middle of the tracks on offer here. Across the five tracks expect plenty of big riffs and licks, high intensity drumming, throbbing bass and melodies all coming together to captivate and thrill.

My kids are trying to persuade us to take them to Blackpool and the Pleasure Beach during the holidays. If you are Blackpool bound for Rebellion, give the Pleasure Beach a miss, and head to see The Eddies instead. They will give you more than enough of a high-octane buzz and pleasure than any ride could.

If you are lucky enough to be going to Rebellion in a couple of weeks, you can pick up a copy of the EP as the band are releasing it on August 2nd at their Rebellion show. They have an initial run of 100 Rebellion exclusives (first 20 come with a patch I believe.) The EP will be available via their Facebook page thereafter.
