Speed of Life – spoken word & music from Richard Jobson & Martin Metcalfe

Richard Jobson Live Banner

Speed of Life

After 2 successful and well received shows in Edinburgh and Irvine, Richard Jobson & Martin Metcalfe take this unusual and enthralling performance on tour across the UK over 6 dates.

Richard_Jobson_Martin_MetcalfeDUOThis project isn’t be the first time the multi-faceted Jobson and Metcalfe have worked together. Jobson has previously provided the vocal for Isa & the Filthy Tongues track Bus Shelter and more recently the pair collaborated on a number of songs on the Skids recent comeback album “Burning Cities.” I’m sure this collaboration won’t be the last.

Green and Blue

The dates will be a combination of spoken word, music, songs and a Q&A
Jobson will read excerpts from his acclaimed new sci-fi novel “Speed of Life”, its name taken from the instrumental track of the same name on Bowies “Low” album.

Two aliens visit Earth in search of the secret of human creativity.
They’ve already received broadcast from Earth on their own distant planet.
They’ve identified what they think is the best example of a creative human.
His name is David Bowie.

Richard’s heartfelt love letter to David Bowie is brought to life in form of two aliens. Their names are Green & Blue. Their search for Bowie, their observations about humanity and its strange habit of ‘creating’ are a joy to read.

The Speed of Life is both an examination of the intangible relationship between creator and fan, the loved and the lovers, and a quiet meditation on the inexplicable power of music.

Musical marvel, Filthy Tongue & David Bowie fan (having previously covered Heroes and the Brel classic also covered by Bowie, Amsterdam) Martin Metcalfe provides the musical landscape to Jobson’s readings.

If the music is as atmospheric as the magnificence and character of the Filthy Tongues albums of the last few years, Jacob’s Ladder and Back to Hell, this will be a musical spectacular.

Add to that, Richard & Martin performing unplugged songs from the Skids back catalogue plus a few of their co-writes from the recent UK top 30 Skids LP “Burning Cities”, you are in for a multi-aural treat.

I will be at The Admiral date in Glasgow, so expect a review back here shortly after.
