SIEL LIEN – I Am Fire/A Little While More

SEIL LIEN

Neil Tells the Truth…

Glasgow music fans are in for a treat this Thursday (26th July)

New York Doll, Sylvain Sylvain is visiting to play St Lukes & the Winged Ox. The gig is in support of his book – “There’s No Bones in Ice Cream”.

Not only do you get an original New York Doll, but you get treated to a set by the darkly majestic Filthy Tongues. Metcalfe, Kelly, Fin and company will make your year playing tracks from the first two albums of their magnum opus.

The Filthy Tongues

Jacob’s Ladder was one of the albums of 2016 and the second album of a trilogy, this year’s Back to Hell, is already being celebrated as one of the albums of the year in Louder Than War’s mid-year list. It is certain to appear in my own end of year list regardless of what else comes my way between now and then. Miss this gig at your peril. The last time they played St Lukes it was an exceptional night of music.

As if that wasn’t enough, be sure and turn up early so you don’t miss first support SEIL LIEN.

I have just received her EP A Little While More. I’ve been listening to this alongside the tracks downloaded in advance of receiving the vinyl of I Am Fire.

I Am Fire (the vinyl single and also on the EP) leads off with distorted guitar & singer Marie Claire’s vivid sultry voice, the impressively moody track triumphantly building to a smouldering crescendo.

Elsewhere across the songs, there is an exquisitely breathy cover of The Passions, I’m in Love With a German Film Star, Lead track on the EP, the ethereal A Little While More, throws out atmospheric shades reminiscent of Portishead in places. OK, I know this is an example I’ve used before, but this could deservedly appear in the closing scenes of Twin Peaks in the Bang Bang Club.

I like to get wee extras alongside my music (see also The Jackhammers review). This time, a little work of art. The art itself is beautiful and cleverly created by artist Frank To using gunpowder. A nice link to the single title. More than that though, the packaging with a hand typed (remember typewriters?) and signed note is a collectable piece of art in itself.
Believe me, you won’t be disappointed – get onto their bandcamp page and order it now.

Whatever you do, don’t read the name backwards…
