The Jackhammers, Cundeez & Texas Mod Crushers – Vinyl Rules

The Jackhammers

Vinyl Rules

Two cracking 7” singles arrived at The Ginger Quiff towers recently. (Well one of them was a few weeks ago, but I’ve been AWOL from the log in recent weeks…)

The Jackhammers

First up it’s the mighty Jackhammers with Jim Shit on vocals & bass, Andy Drankit on Drums and Horace Cockpuppet on guitar and vocals. I’m pretty sure they are not the names they were christened with.

The 3 track 7” is available from their bandcamp site. It has 3 different covers available. Standard orange cover (100 copies), white cover (50 copies) and you’re too late for the black cover – only 5 of those exist.

The JackhammersSo, to the music. No A or B sides here – Patri-side is the full speed assault on the ear-drums thrashing guitars, thumping bass and solid drums that is Your Problem – “It’s your, it’s your problem now… ”

On the Matri-side, you get some more full on punk rock on Delete Me with crashing cymbals, drums and bass opening the track before the crunching guitars welcome the melody and the chorus – “Delete me before I delete you”. Also on this side there is a fantastic cover in your face of Not Now, No Way (The Pagans) delivered in full fuck you mode

All 3 tracks clock in at either just under or just over 2 minutes. Perfect.

Original artThere was an added bonus in the packaging – some original Jackhammers artwork – Cheers!

Tarbeach

Next up it is the latest release from the tremendous Tarbeach Recordings following on from the recent vinyl release from Airdrie’s very own Reaction.

This time it’s a joint 7” on clear vinyl from Dundee’s very own The Cundeez and from Houston, the Texas Mod Crushers.

2 different styles of tracks but both eminently worthy of repeat listens.

Cundeez

CundeezIf you’ve been following my blog since the start, you’ll know that I already love the Cundeez track, it was released as a download last year but now available on vinyl for the first time. I stand by what I said about it then. A refreshing joyous slab of ska punk that has you wanting to jump out of your seat and skank along from the moment it starts. You can’t just listen once. It is addictive.

Texas Mod Crushers

Texas Mod CrushersThis record is another triumph for Tarbeach who have in the past year have introduced me to the delights of bands from the US such as GIFTSHOP, Pepper Kings & Monkey Don’t Care. Add Texas Mod Crushers to that list as they bring their gloriously uplifting blend of punk, rock ‘n’ roll to the party with Papa Whiskey, the track doesn’t let up for its duration and adds some splendid vocal harmonies in the chorus.

Get the vinyl from the bands or order direct from Tarbeach – and check out the other releases while you’re there.
