Like Ex-, The Red Eyes are one of Scotland’s prime purveyors of melodic punk influenced by the first wave of 1978/77 punk bands. Alan Bishop and Co. have been a fixture on the Scottish punk scene for what must be coming up on thirty years, with five albums under their belt from their debut Up to Our Eyes In It through to 2022’s Falling Through the Cracks. My own introduction to the band came after a friend raved about them having seen them support 999 in Glasgow, and lent me their first two CDs, the aforementioned Up to Or Eyes In It and On Prescription, and since then I’ve seen the band in a variety of venues across Glasgow, never failing to put on anything less than an outstanding performance, the driving rhythms of the bands punk roots shining through and giving a platform to Alan’s now familiar vocals delivering his stories through song.… Read the rest

Dogtooth – Cut – single review

In terms of new music for 2020, you could do a hell of a lot worse than look out for the new single from Dogtooth due to drop on the 22^nd of February.

Despite still being in the first flush of youth, they have already been around for aeons. Like Ash and Silverchair before them, releasing music in their early teens, their “A Way of Life” EP coming out in 2015. The CD cover spoke “mod” and their original track A Way of Life had a sub David Watts rumble to it as they espoused a similar tale to The Red Eyes This is My Life.… Read the rest

Airdrie – So Much to Answer For…

I didn’t think I would see myself focussing so much of my leisure time on the outputs of the Lanarkshire town of Airdrie.

Airdrie. A town I don’t know much about, apart from it being home to a few friends, the Diamonds (Airdrieonians FC) and that one of its famous landmarks is something I remember hearing about on the radio and TV from my youth, the Blackhill transmitter.

Interesting fact fans. Airdrieonians FC are the first football team in the World to have a fans group as the main sponsor of their kit. Life-long Airdrie fan Mark Allison’s image appeared on the shirts having tragically died from pancreatic cancer aged only 49.… Read the rest

2017 was a big year for The Red Eyes. They released their 4^th album – the masterpiece that is “Man and Boy” and marked their 20^th anniversary with a tremendous gig in Audio playing 2 sets – one with original 90’s line up and their headline “Man and Boy” set. The Red Eyes were joined on the night backed up by Fudgie McFadden’s “Strung Out Nights” and Heavy Drapes, who are due to release their debut album in 2018.
