VIDEO PREMIERE – Burnt Log – Sharks

Burnt Log Sharks single cover

The Ginger Quiff is delighted to bring you the VIDEO PREMIERE of Sharks, the new single from Burnt Log. Burnt Log is the solo music project of Midlothian based Andy Smith, whose last single Sleeping featured in my January Singles Round Up. Sharks is the latest single to be released in a year where Andy’s plans include further singles and collaborations and a third album from Burnt Log.

Musically Sharks has a vulnerable, dramatic and bewitching melancholy which at times verges almost on a disturbing starkness when you match the music with the lyrics. The song is a gloriously discombobulating fusion that somehow has the ability to both soothe with its mesmerising arrangement, but which could also give you sleepless night, with it’s lyrics serving as a warning to us all that we are all under constant attack from people trying to steal the money we’ve worked hard to save “for a rainy day.”

The inspiration behind the song comes from watching an episode of Rip Off Britain…“I find fraud disgusting. Watching daytime TV shows like Rip Off Britain always sets me off. ‘Sharks’ is a reaction to the never-ending parade of con artists who wake up every day with one goal: to rob honest, hardworking people of everything they’ve earned. I am sure once these vultures hear the single they will see the error of their ways and take up a more honest profession immediately!” Here’s hoping…

What about the video? This came from the imagination of Kris Boyle who has made videos for several Scottish bands, many of whom have appeared on these pages, like Constant Follower, De Rosa, Jewel Scheme, F.O. Machete, Happy Particles and Upturned Boats.

Andy: “I have been a fan of the Kris Boyle’s work for some time so I decided to approach him and was thrilled he was interested in creating a video for me. I sent him two songs to choose from and he went for Sharks which I agree was the better fit as it is probably more in line with the sound of the bands mentioned above that works so well with his visuals. I am over the moon with the results as, without any prompts from me, he has made something beautifully haunting and genuinely creepy (I love creepy) that perfectly compliments the music.”
