Singles Round Up 2026 – January – Part 2

Part two of an already strong month for new singles and another smorgasbord of songs from bands old and new from harmonious folky melodies from Amy Duncan and M. John Henry through to in your face punk from Dropkick Murphys and Gogol Bordello… Part three still to come with some more outstanding songs…

November Singles… the next batch

With Brontës having laid down the gauntlet and got the challenge for single of the month off to a flier with their captivating new song San Francisco, it is down to all comers to try to snatch the title from their grasp. The next batch for November has revealed some strong contenders, with a huge showing from some rival Scottish acts…

The Treasury’s in Love is the new single from indie-folksters Elgin and the Marbles, and is a clever lyrical take on all things wrong with the current state of the finances of these shores, seemingly made worse with each new chancellor who wanders into 11 Downing Street.

November Singles – Pt 6 – Librarians With Hickeys, Split Dogs, Annie-Dog, The Gold Needles, Alba Fury, The Elf of Elfbrook Court…

In Part 6 there are a couple of singles from the Big Stir stable with Librarian With Hickeys, and Hull’s The Gold Needles a couple of furious songs, one by nature from Split Dogs and one by name from Alba Fury, the dog references continue with Dublin’s Annie-Dog and one from the Christmassy sounding Elf of Elfbrook Court.

The deeper we get into 2021, the more I’ve come to realise that the only thing I can truly rely on from this increasingly frustrating, nay, infuriating year is that there is seemingly an unending supply of superb new albums around every corner. Certainly enough to distract me from losing my mind over each new headline and sensationalist reporting that comes with it.

The Gold Needles, Hull’s purveyors of fine 1960s influenced psych power-pop prove their worth once again with a delightful selection of sunshine-tinged pop tunes, this time released on legendary US-based label Jem Records. The band appear to have taken the time between their debut Pearls and this new album Through a Window, honing and perfecting their blissed-out sounds.

This album is a cohesive solid set of ten beat pop influenced tunes dropping just in time for summer. Through a window will be a great soundtrack to long hot hazy summer days, if we get any.
