Singles Round Up 2025 – February – Part 4

The Gorgeous Pouting Mr AR ft. Carla J Easton – Hands in the Air

Hands in the Air feels like a dancefloor smash akin to a Scottish Murder on the Dancefloor, or along the lines of a banging Moloko track, whatever the comparison I may be trying to make, the song has a huge sound, with a real (showing my age here) disco sound, and when you cap that off with the distinctive vocals of a distinguished Ms Carla J Easton, you’re onto a winner.

Second City Sin – Morose

Morose has a strong driving rhythm with plenty of intensely ardent riffs, paired with a suitably passionate and earnest vocal delivery befitting of a song with such a title.

Divorce – Hangman

With what is sure to be one of 2025’s albums of the year already released, Divorce release one of my favourite songs from the album in the shape of Hangman with a gloriously uplifting indie-folk sound that follows in the footsteps of other local heroes such as Admiral Fallow.

Berries – Narrow Tracks

I’m pretty sure I’ve featuring this Berries track before, but I don’t think it had a video at the time, so what better excuse to share again. The single comes from their excellent self titled sophomore album released late last year.

Secret Radio – Dawn

I’m pretty sure this must be the first time I’ve featured a band from Kazakhstan on the blog. Dawn from Secret Radio kicks off with a dreamy shoegaze feel to it before opening up into a powerful driving rhythm that channels the spirit of Blue Aeroplanes.

PVC – Cara’s Song

Glasgow has always had an embarrassment of riches when it comes to music, and the current crop of bands from this city is no exception, PVC helping to keep up their end of the bargain with this glorious song in two parts. Im looking forward to hearing Cara’s Song at the excellent House Guest Fest this weekend.

Conscious Pilot – Kitchen Knife

… and talking of House Guest, another of the weekend highlights is sure to be the angular jagged rhythms in the shape of Conscious Pilot’s with this, their joint post punk 7” single with…

Bikini Body – The News

… Bikini Body who add to their burgeoning catalogue of obtusely brusque and suitably spiky post punk songs with barbed lyrics in the perfect form of The News a song which bristles with brio and a suppressed rage.

The Speedways – Visiting Hours

The Speedways always have the knack of creating singles packed with glorious power pop riffs and sublime harmonies, and in Visiting Hours have released a single that a certain troubadour by the name of Elvis Costello would be proud.

David Luximon – Petrichor

Perhaps my favourite word, a word that describes one of my favourite smells, the one of a fresh fall of rain after a long dry period. And now it’s one of my favourite songs of recent years too, the latest single to come from David Luximon’s A Certain Frame of Reference album, one of the highlights from last year.

Kim Deal – Big Ben Beat

It’s hard to believe that Nobody Loves You More is Kim Deal’s debut solo album, having graced the airwaves for many years as part of Pixies, Breeders, The Amps et al. Big Ben Beat is one of the prime cuts from the album, accompanied by this Richard Ayoade directed video.

Lambrini Girls – No Homo

With a triumphant no fucks given debut album released in January, and all dates sold out for their upcoming tour… things are on the up and up for Lambrini Girls. February saw the release of No Homo, an exploration of flipping repressed queerness on its head and celebrating the joys of being queer.
