Pick of the Gigs for November AND October’s Singles Round Up

Two birds, one stone and all that… November in Glasgow has some inviting offerings large and small, with the usual amount of gig clashes. While we’re here October served up some juicy morsels on the singles front…

Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start… Another multi venue offering comes Glasgow’s way in the 1st of the month, with Scottish Music Collective serving up a smorgasbord of some of the best young talent Scotland has to offer. Fheadain takes place in Stereo and The Old Hairdressers, and the festivities kick off in The Old Hairdressers at 2.30 in the afternoon with Lint Bin, followed by Vacant Pavements, Awful Eyes, Puppy Teeth, Milange, PVC, PSweatpants, Straid and The Froobz, with Roller Disco Death Party winding things up at 10pm. Meanwhile over at Stereo, The Noise Club kick things off at 3.15 followed by Conscious Pilot, Foreign2, Alcatraz, Plasticine, Fog Bandits & Martha May and the Mondays with Parliamo bringing the party to a close in Stereo at 9.05. If you’re lucky there might be a few tickets left. Start working out your clashes now…

This is a stellar line up, with a few of the bands releasing new music in October… first up, the unstoppable rising force that is Alcatraz released the suitably menace filled Nowhere Man in Halloween month…

Awful Eyes had us playing a game of spot the song title in their scathing take down single, the excellent Post Punk Revival

And just last week saw the release of the latest single from PVC, a late contender for single of the month in the shape of Sitcom.

The eyes have it on the same day in Ivory Blacks with Two’s Up Promotions Saturday Punk Club putting on another of their popular afternoon gigs with X Ray Eyes, Buzzbomb and Beauty School Dropout providing the entertainment… all that and you can be home for dinner and then tucked up in bed early with a hot chocolate.

While you’re there you can then enjoy some of the punk singles that raised their heads above the parapet in October. The inimitable Andy Blade with the 21st century version of Eater released their take on God Save the Queen from their punk covers album Duplication, two singles also dropped as tasters for the Motörhead punk tribute album Killed By Deaf, Rancid offered up Sex and Death while Pennywise stayed true to the original with their version of Ace of Spades.

I’ll be supporting the much maligned Bob Vylan at their Academy gig on Thursday the 6th, while elsewhere in town Echobelly play in Oran Mor and from Dublin Sprints appear at SWG3.

Bob Vylan released their latest single Sick Sad World in October, a commentary on the state of the world in 2025 that has seen the rise of the right once again.

The following night sees the largest number of gigs in one night that I would probably have gone to if I could. As it is I’m heading to Ivory Blacks for the return of the brilliant His Lordship.  On any other day I could have gone to any of Annabelle Lwin bringing Bow Wow Wow to St Luke’s, Discharge play a sold out gig in Audio, Geordie troubadour Martin Stephenson plays in Slay, Dirt Box Disco are in Nice n Sleazy while rising stars of the Glasgow music scene, Voitures gig next door in 1990 (previously Broadcast for the unacquainted)

His Lordship released another of their powerful garage rock anthems from their latest album Bored Animal in October

Saturday 8th November sees The Audio Lounge in Maryhill host a Solidarity for Palestine all-dayer. With Martha May and the Mondays back for a second weekend running, also on the bill are Wine Moms, Aftrshocks, Proof of Failure, Peroxide, Sentiment, Reefer Madness, Venus in the Lake, Burning the Filth, The Urban, Citizenhead, Useless Cowboy and Glyph alongside speakers and stalls. Get along and show your support. Elsewhere in the city Glasgow legends Reverse Cowgirls are at The Fuzz Factory No. 17 in Bloc, cloth appear in King Tuts and Casual Drag are on the bill with The 113 in Nice n Sleay. There will, I’m sure, be a large contingency heading Fifewards from Glasgow for Guana Batz in Kirkcaldy.

Here’s the latest single from Casual Drag from the October singles round up.

On Sunday the 9th, fresh from recent stints in Holland and on the BBC Introducing stage at Tenement Trail, Tanzana support The Cliffords in King Tuts. The Cliffords released an acoustic version of Dungarvan Bay in October

The Rapture is happening on the 11th, not the actual rapture but the band from New York grace these shores with their presence at St Lukes, while on the same night Sunday (1994) visit Oran Mor. At the same venue it’s time for some punk nostalgia again on the 12th with Mark Laff’s XGenerationX and on the 13th it’s another night of 80s nostalgia this time in the form of Heaven 17 at the Barrowland Ballroom. The also sees the first of 2 dates in 3 days for the wonderful Pains of Being Pure at Heart, first up its a “warm up” show at The Hug and Pint then on Saturday the 15th they return to Glasgow for a gig in Stereo, unfortunately, I think they’re both sold out. Friday 14th sees another four prospects for greats nights, hometown electro punks VLURE take to The Art School stage, Son of the Right Hand launch their new EP Pscenic Route in the Glad Cafe, Swim School are in the QMU and last but not least The Subways are in King Tuts. The weekend continues into Saturday 15th with a choice of Water From Your Eyes in The Rum Shack and TTSSFU in King Tuts. Shame bring the weekend to a close on the 16th in The Garage.

Fresh from announcing the return of Sugar, Bob Mould plays a solo gig in Oran Mor on Tuesday the 18th and English Teacher head to Barrowland on the 19th, the same night as The Chameleons paly at The Garage. The Fabulous Courettes return for a second date in Glasgow for 2025, this time in form of the support to Hugh Cornwell in St Lukes on the 20th. Admiral Fallow and Leisureland both have gigs on Friday the 21st in the QMU and King Tuts respectively and fresh from releasing their debut single heavyskint play McChuills with The Violets and the excellent Braes. Saturday 22nd has iwanttobeontv playing their first headline gig in The Hug and Pint while Broken Chanter play twice in the Glad Cafe, a matinee and an evening performance, Nouvelle Vague also bring their suave and sophisticated cover versions to the QMU. The end of the weekend has Aussie punk legends The Saints in the Garage, Wet Leg play the first of their 2 nights at the Academy and Dinosaur Jr and Sebadoh legend Lou Barlow is at Nice n Sleazy.

So to the last week in November and The Horrors are at the QMU on the 25th and Carla J Eaton supports Tune Yards at St Lukes on Wednesday 26th while The Hives bring their high energy garage rock to the OVO Hydro. Also at the Hydro, ear plugs may be required to avoid deafness with My Bloody Valentine on the 27th. On the last Saturday of the month the one and only Slime City being their unique style to The Art School on the 29th to celebrate the release of their new album.

There were a lot of great singles from young talented Scottish bands in October over and above the ones already mentioned. Tina Sandwich continue to go from strength to strength with the anthemic Grit.

Corinne revealed their gentle side with One More Breath

wojtek the bear released one of the biggest earworms of the month with their response to the BMX Bandits single Kylie’s Got a Crush on Us, their single Kylie’s Put a Curse on Us, with lyrics playing around with Kylie song titles.

heavyskint released their impressive debut single Vice

Garlands are consistently great, as evidenced with the latest offering from the band French Exit

Eve Davidson released the powerfully atmospheric Don’t make me… under the guise of Wychwound

The masters of chaos Casual Drag released their latest single The Master

All in all there are 50 tracks for your delectation on the playlist. Something for everyone. As well as the songs already featured, you can find, 2 new songs from rockabilly giants The Stray Cats, the return of Scarlet Fantastic with a cover of Bowie’s Time, another return, this time from Hadda Be with one of their strongest singles to date.

What’s not to love about Skipper, the latest brilliant sax laden single from Y?
