November Singles – Pt 7 – V.C.O., Count the Days, Gallus, Kneecap, Brielle, Corrine…

Loads of local talent in the last section of this months round up…alongside some celtic cousins with Kneecap joining some of Scotland’s best young talent, V.C.O., Count The Days, Gallus, Brielle, Corrine.

V.C.O. – Slow Dance

When you press play on V.C.O.s Slow Dance it is like being transported back to the 1980s, a decade of music that often gets a bad reputation with cheesey pop, leg warmers and day glo taking centre stage in misrememberings about what 80s music was all about. The utterly addictive Slow Dance has me yearning for the hedonistic highs of 80s music with its retro post punk alt-pop electronica feel.

Count the Days – Above You

What do you do that makes you feel alive? A great question asked by Count the Days on their Above You single, personally I like to go to gigs and listen to music. Like this. Above You is gutsy punk/metal with a dark raw edge, with a sound that is often not unlike Lanarkshire’s Drunk Gods in places. The band are playing (alongside many other up and coming bands) as part of King Tuts New Years Revolution on the same bill as Martha May and the Mondays.

Gallus – Depressed Beyond Tablets

Despite the song title, Gallus take the listener on an euphorically riotous thrill ride with their riff heavy pedal to the metal single Depressed Beyond Tablets.

Kneecap – Better Way to Live (Sam Interface Remix)

A year after the original single featuring Grian Chatten from Fontaines DC came out, the phenomenon that is Kneecap keep on giving, with a Fine Art remix EP featuring this Sam Interface version of the Better Way to Live single alongside three other remixes of songs from the album.

Brielle – You Oughta Know

Pop/emo-punk band Brielle’s take on a 90s alt rock smash on their new single. Their take on one of the bands major inspirations Alanis Morissette’s 1995 hit You Oughta Know remains fairly true to the original in doing so allowing Beth’s powerful vocal to soar and shine.

Corrine – Despise

One of my bands to watch in 2025, Corrine released their follow up to previous single Murder in November, Despise has a vocal that is simultaneously powerfully charmingly and darkly haunting, atop a chaotic blend of screaming guitars, thundering bass and a crashing maelstrom of drums. More please. Catch the band live on 13th December in The Flying Duck.
