Another eclectic mix for Part 4 of Novembers singles featuring the unmistakable vocal of Sade on a very personal song alongside Essential Logic, Jody and the Jerms, Lambrini Girls, the genus single from Joshua Idehen, two blinks, I love you and yet another release from the hard working Dancer.
Jody and the Jerms – Winter Heart
A swathe of strings from Erica Nockalls on the driving rhythm of Winter Hearts adds another layer to the bands sound creating a song which is both upbeat and vivacious and highly emotive.
Lambrini Girls – Love
From their forthcoming album Who Let the Dogs Out, Love is a song of two parts one part a seething riot of scathing railing against toxic relationships and one part fun of regret and sorrow as a direct result of being involved in said toxic relationships. Another cracking song from the acerbic duo from what promises to be a bruising thrill ride of an album.
Joshua Idehen – Mum Does the Washing
Mum Does the Washing is a hypnotic highly addictive journey through a cross sections of ideologies from across the planet creating a humorous but thought provoking set of analogies, all based around the singular theme of your mum doing the washing…
Dancer – Paging Planet Earth
Dancer seem to be omnipresent this year, releasing albums, split albums, singles, EPs and playing gigs left right and centre. Paging Planet Earth is just one of the cornucopia of aural delights to be sampled from this energetic and jauntily jubilant post-punk quartet.
two blinks, i love you – baby drums
Essential Logic – Land of Kali (Adamski remix)
Essential Logic, the band formed by X Ray Spex Lara Logic (who made an appearance with Glasgow’s very own bis in St Luke’s in September to perform Germ Free Adolescents with them) returned in 2022 with the album Land of Kali. This year they have released the remix album Rekalibrated which includes this Adamski remix if the 2022 albums title track.
Sade – Young Lion
This touching ballad comes from the forthcoming Red Hot Organisation’s Transa compilation album, Sade’s unmistakeable vocal a compassionate and heartfelt apology to her trans son Izaak. As she sings “Forgive me son, I should have known”, the love she has for her son is palpable.
