November Singles – Part 1 – Guest Directors, Blueboy, Peter Murphy/Boy George, Keeley, Broken Chanter…

A new approach to Singles Round Ups for The Ginger Quiff… a small batch approach, a few songs at a tie making up the months playlist… then I’ll select my pick of the bunch at the end of the month. That’s the idea….anyway we’ll see how it goes.

The first five for November belong to Guest Directors from Seattle, the second single from 90s indie popsters Blueboy on the Precious Recordings of London label, the meeting of music legends Peter Murphy and Boy George, the latest single offering from the indefatigable Keeley and a musicale warning of global warming from Broken Chanter.

Guest Directors – Keep a Fresh Eye

First up on this months round up is Keep a Fresh Eye from Seattle’s Guest Directors, a song which bears a passing resemblance to New York City’s no wave heroes Sonic Youth during their more melodic phases, never a bad thing in my mind.

Blueboy – Deux

Having released their first single in 25 years on the Precious Recordings of London, Blueboy continue on their welcome return journey with their cunningly titled second single on the label, Deux…the mellifluous laid back French infused shoegaze follow up to, you guessed it… One.

Peter Murphy and Boy George – Let the Flowers Grow

I’m kind of obsessed with this single, it stunned me with its beauty from the first listen and keeps getting better. Two well known voices whose interplay on this song is peerless. And for someone whose career was spent trying to emulate one of his vocal heroes, Murphy seems to have finally morphed into Bowie on this… remarkable

Keeley – Waves of 1988

Keeley never fails to impress me with not only her dedication to the cause of Inga Maria Hauser but also in her ability to write addictively mesmerisingly haunting melodies of which this is no exception.

Broken Chanter – Don’t You Think That Something Needs to Be Done

The Doomsday clock is creeping ever closer to midnight as is pointed out on this toe tapping Broken Chanter classic, once again David proving an uncanny knack of matching strong lyrical messages with instant euphoric and euphonic earworms.
