Cyanide Sundae – Nothing to Lose EP review

Cyanide Sundae Nothing to Lose EP

Not a new release but one of these “new to me” bands that I have been listening to over the weekend.

Nothing to Lose EP

Nothing to Lose is a 4 track EP of sonically appealing gravelly vocalled melodic hard rock, with well-structured and thought out songs. They  appeal to the side of me that loves The Yo Yos, Wildhearts, The Main Grains, Therapy?, Zodiac Mindwarp – rock music that dips its toe into a bit of punk attitude.

Lead track, What Can I Do?, the track which provides the name of the EP, is all driving guitar, pulsating bass and crashing drums. With a husky vocal telling the tale of someone at the end of their tether “How am I supposed to choose, with nothing left at all to lose”.

Buzzing guitars and reverberating bass greet you on the The Rebound with its memorable singalong chorus.

There is a lively energy running through the tracks that helps envisage what the live Cyanide Sundae experience would be like. Spinning Wheel maintains this energy and has some interesting squelchy & twanging bass lines. Paul’s growling vocal fits the music perfectly.

The final track is Rage. As you might expect, it sounds like what you would think a song with that title would sound. Full on rampant fast guitars with equally wanton rhythm section.
